From 2003. Color pencil on Rives paper, 36x26in
Not much to say about it. It was big, it was difficult, and I ground my teeth into a paste trying to finish it. (And it took me a few months to realize that I never got around to finishing the ears. o_O I promise to fix that before I even think about making prints of this available.) The idea behind it -- biomechanics. Maybe she's some cybernetic organism that draws energy from "energy springs" that crop up in the form of these weird "cyber trees." Or something. Howard: Day 79. Still no sign of the snow leopard. So lonely here… Wind my only friend…
Wind: I hate you!
Howard: Shut up, wind! Shut up!
The color at the top, with the jewels, sky, and such is very vibrant and bright....I love it.
The coloring at the bottom seems to be a bit flat...but it could just be a bad medium transfer from paper to computer...
Either way, this truly is beautiful....great job!!

take care,
Ryan
and, if you would, please check out my
ja nata
That might be part of the problem (if I had to stick the blame somewhere else besides on myself. Heh.) But I think the main problem is the fact that I don't have as many complementary colors at the bottom, so the viewer's eye is drawn mainly to the top 2/3 of the drawing. I didn't realize that until I was nearly finished, and I tried dropping some last-minute touches of red at the bottom (the jewels). Still didn't turn out as balanced as I'd hoped. Color composition makes my brain hurt . . .
w00t! My first piece of constructive crit. And a fave. Thanks Ryan!
In any way of seeing it, I must say you rock.

"If there is no God, why be good?" he asks rhetorically, and responds: "Do you really mean the only reason you try to be good is to gain God's approval and reward? That's not morality, that's just sucking up." - Richard Dawkins
